Irish hopes boosted by Efficient withdrawal
October 30, 2008
Aidan O’Brien’s hopes of landing a first Melbourne Cup with Coolmore star and Cup favourite Septimus have received a fresh boost with the withdrawal of Australia’s best hope, and reigning champion, Efficient.
The Aussie star and $8 second favourite has been ruled out for the rest of the year after straining a fetlock joint this week and Australian hopes of taking the blue ribband event now rest in the hands of veteran Zipping and promising four-year-old C’est La Guerre (both $16).
Septimus has now shortened in to $4.50 while English stayer Mad Rush has taken over as $5.50 second favourite.
