Walsh out to impress at St Kilda trial
December 5, 2008
Kerry superstar and Young Gaelic Footballer of the Year Tommy Walsh is due to land in Melbourne today ahead of a week-long trial with St Kilda which is set to begin on Monday.
A spokesman for St Kilda – who have just added Laois star Colm Begley to their senior list after picking him up in the national draft – have confirmed that Walsh will have a trial with the club next week.
Walsh was originally supposed to fly to Melbourne a few weeks ago for a trial with the Saints, but his trip was postponed after his club Mid Kerry were held to a draw by Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the Kerry championship.
Walsh’s Kerry team-mate David Moran is not expected to travel to Australia, as had originally been planned, as he turns his attentions to exam commitments.
The Saints’ intentions for Walsh are as yet unclear as the deadline for international draft nominations fell on December 2, while an AFL spokesman said the league would not bend its deadline for the nomination of international draftees.
